I'm not as much a fan of New Year's resolutions; however, I'm embracing the chance to make a new start and give a long-awaited update. With the help of my family, I've been able to give my office a much-needed upgrade and thought the business should have one as well.

New office makeover :)

First, in 2023, Substance and Style LLC got our first client! I have a background in project management, particularly in education and youth programming-related projects. Past colleagues spoke to me about working with a new NGO called Maryland Reads, a local organization dedicated to improving literacy rates in my home state of Maryland. I assisted in setting up organizational tools and procedures, helped with our first event, and did various tasks as needed. While my work is winding down with them, it's been rewarding to help a new organization get off the ground.

Second, a personal journey of mine has given me new creative inspiration. Over the past year, after having been a lifelong Roman Catholic, I've been pursuing a conversion to Judaism. My involvement with my local synagogue choir has revitalized my singing and made me more determined to take this further through this venture. To that end, Substance and Style LLC will have its own YouTube channel and I will also post music on Instagram as well as TikTok (provided the latter is still accessible).

Third, I have decided to focus less on event planning and more on freelance writing and editing for other services. I will also link to my Medium profile and continue developing my portfolio.

Other updates: I am currently in graduate school and have been taking prerequisites for medical school. My Kiddo is almost four years old and I'm enjoying the independence this brings both of us. I look forward to new opportunities and beginnings and I wish the same for everyone reading!

This is something I hope to do for couples but now can say for my company :)

Substance and Style LLC is now an official business in the state of Maryland. Since incorporating, I have received my business EIN for tax purposes, which has allowed me to apply for state tax accounts. I'm also going to open an official business account and get a business license for my county.

I am also researching how I can operate in DC as well. I am based right outside the city limits and would love to have that flexibility. I still need to check state guidelines.

In the meantime, I'm on my way to help you make it official.

Hello Everyone!

Since I last posted, I've made some major changes to the business.

First, we are now an official LLC in the state of Maryland! In the process of registration, I found out that the old name, Style and Substance, was too close to that of another company and was not allowed to use it. Substance and Style, however, was, and thus a new name was born.

With the new name came a new vision. While I aimed to offer tutoring and other services, I wanted to bring my talents together in a more cohesive way. Solo singing is the only service that remains from the original vision and in addition, I am also providing services as a wedding officiant.

The wedding officiant idea came to me as a moment of inspiration. A close friend of mine got married and one of our mutual friends served as her officiant. It inspired me to seek online ordination and bring my talents in event planning, writing, speaking, storytelling, and collaboration together in a unifying way. As a bisexual woman in particular, I especially look forward to performing LGBTQIA+ weddings.

I will roll out official bookings once I have all of my tax information and local licensing in place. In the meantime, sit back and enjoy the show!
